The front wasn't nearly as bad as predicted. I guess the weather
service is the same everywhere. While it was cooler today (60-65), there
was no rain. It was a clear, breezy, sunny day. Because of the wind
we took the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AICW), the inside route. It
took us all day to cover 40 miles. The AICW here is one long no wake
zone, with bridges on restricted schedules (one only opens once an hour).
So we are anchored in a cove just outside Ft. Lauderdale that was
recommended on Active Captain (a trip adviser for boaters). The
cove is surrounded by homes, and the owners are glaring at the boats anchored
in “their” cove. The right to anchor has
been a hotly litigated issue here in Florida, pitting homeowners against
boaters. If you are interested, try this

We traveled with Interlude today, another Mainship. |

A typical Florida canal. |

Typical AICW home. Many are for sale. |

AICW-the boat is a tourist boat out of Delray. |

Berwick, if I remember correctly, Miami is about 20 miles from Ft. Lauderdale. So at your current pace you should arrive about early afternoon on Saturday. When do the weather gurus say is the best day to cross the Gulf Stream? How long will it take you to get to Bimini?
ReplyDeleteBerwick, are you staying in Sunrise Bay?
