Mechanical issues are a way of life on a boat.  My temperamental watermaker blew a high
pressure hose, and the port engine water pump is leaking, a sure sign of its imminent
demise.  So being in Spanish Wells is a
good thing.  It is a self-described
working community that is the lobster capital of the Bahamas.  I found a marine repair shop, and the owner had
been to Houma.  He bought a steel shrimp
boat for use in the lobster trade here.
Come to find out most of the lobster boats here were built in the Houma
area.  $600 later I had a hose.  A new waterpump is being shipped from
Florida, and we will stop back by on our way back from Harbor Island and have
it installed.  All it took was a credit
card…..
I can’t say enough positive things about Spanish Wells.  It is clean, organized and becoming a tourist
destination, because it is safe, reliable and friendly.  Tourism will probably ruin it! Below are pics from the town.
