From Bimini to the Exumas is a trek. Yesterday (Sunday) we traveled about 100
miles to the Berry Islands, and anchored out for the night. The Berrys are largely uninhabited, and have
miles of barren beaches to explore. It
is also home to Chub Cay marina, a fishing mecca. Chub had been destroyed by a hurricane a few
years ago and has just reopened. We
opted to anchor as the scenery is so serene.
Today, we traveled about 60 miles to Spanish Wells, a truly remarkable
town. Settled by British missionaries,
it is prosperous, well-kept and a nice stop.
It had been a dry county, but now serves booze! We will provision here tomorrow, as it has a proper
grocery. We arrived early enough to take the dinghy for a snorkeling trip this afternoon. Wednesday we hire a local pilot to navigate us to Harbor Island for a few
days at the upscale resort there. The devil's backbone reef is narrow and not marked, and it is recommended to hire a local pilot to travel the few miles from Spanish Wells to Harbor Island. Money well spent as opposed to a bent prop or worse. From there we head to the Exumas. So far our crossings in the Atlantic have
been calm. Let’s hope our luck
holds!

I did pull a lure while underway, but even with these birds-no hits. |
