Believe it or not Stan turned 49 on this trip. Alexis says she really feels old when I say that. I tell her we are old! We had a great time with Stan, Megan and Cameron visiting Boothbay, Rockland, Camden and Vinalhaven. Here are pics to tell the story:
A Black Guillemot. It took me awhile to identify these birds which are ubiquitous here. Then Megan showed me that if you just hit the "identify" button on your smartphone, it does it for you! Well that takes the fun out of it.....
Rockland Harbor. We were here during the annual lobster fest, and it was a hoot. All you can eat lobster and blueberry pancakes. I was in heaven.
Cameron is going with the lobster motif.
The USS Eagle, one of two active sailing warships, was in for lobster fest. The Coast Guard still uses it to train guardsman. Quite the sight.
Not to be out done, a navy destroyer was also in port for lobster fest, and many sailors were on shore leave in town.
Stan's birthday dessert-you guessed it, blueberry cobbler.
The dinghy dock was full. It was like trying to find a parking space at a packed store. Our dinghy is second from the right bottom.
The fam taking the dinghy to dinner.
We left Boothbay in clear weather and hit this fogbank about half way to Rockland. Had to navigate with radar. Always a stressful thing to do.
The days range from cool to.....
balmy.
Never short on blueberry pancakes in Maine!
Camden harbor. Note the boats on "floats". They are small docks anchored in the harbor for rent.
These are pics from Camden, a charming town.
Camden has a launch service that will take you to and from your boat while on a float or mooring. Saves you from trying to find a place to dock the dinghy.
Nana loves mussels!
Pics from Mount Battie in Camden
Last night we anchored in a cove off Vinalhaven. Megan prepared a cheese board and we ate on the flybridge with a spectacular view.
C'est tout for now!
